The lost Childhood

18-16-9- These are Tofigh’s hands.

He has been here for a year now and he is going to year 4. He came from Kabul.

He came for enrollment today and I have noticed his dark hands. I asked him what do you do? He said I peel raw walnuts. I buy fresh raw walnuts from the market, My mother and I peel them off and then I sell them in the market. I asked permission to take a picture of his hands. He allowed me.

Tofigh’s father has mental health issues and Tofigh has to work and pay for family expenses. When I shook his hands I have noticed his hands are elder than his age.

War has taken away their childhood from them and pushed them into adulthood way too early!
